Essential Emergency items to carry ! Save Lives!
Motorcycling and riding solo in particular are fantastic but the sport comes with risks. For solo riders the risk is even greater. If you crash out in the middle of nowhere or your bike fails while you’re out in the middle of nowhere, obtaining help in a timely manner can be a matter of life and death.
Motorcycling accidents can be deadly just because no one discovers the rider in time or the rider or riders don’t have a first aid or the kit they have is irrelevant. I have seen this happen countless number of times. Guys will buy a $ 20,000 bike and riding gear for another couple but they won’t carry a first aid. Feels sissy ? Ignorance ? Don’t know what to carry ? What could be the reasons to NOT carry. Anyhow in this blog you will find a comprehensive list of items the info on which has been updated to the current day. I ride solo a lot and my first kid saved my skin on two occasions. Now even if its a breakfast ride, first I pack my first aid kit which an ER tech would approve.
Every rider must therefore have equipment that that mitigates the impact of injuries as much as possible, must be able to call for help by any measure necessary or administer first aid to an injured rider. Either way its about saving lives !
Here’s all you need to pack to remain safe and ready during solo ride
1. First-Aid Kit: Carry more items not less ! A good motorcycle first-aid kit must address both minor scrapes and major crashes. The essentials are:
✔ Sterile bandages & gauze – For scrapes and cuts.
✔ Antiseptic wipes & ointments – To prevent infection.
✔ Pain relievers & anti-inflammatory medication – For headaches or muscle aches.
✔ Burn gel & blister pads – Particularly handy on long trips.
✔ Trauma shears & tweezers – To take out debris from wounds.
✔ CPR mask & tourniquet – In the event of severe injuries.
✔ Duct tape & Super glue – Yes you are reading it right. This info comes from my friends in the special forces. I can’t explain more for the sake of misuse – figure out the use – plenty of content on it widely available .
Links to first aid kits – I carry two kits which i have customised to what i think is needed. Off the shelf here they are 1. Mosko Moto 2. Amazon – Everlit ( this is a tactical first aid kit and will handle most emergencies. On long rides in addition to these two we carry a wound closure kit as well. Link here – Amazon-Clozex Why the third one ? On long rides especially with gravel multiple lacerations can happen so the additional wound closure kit. Lastly when travelling high altitude carry AMS meds and or Oxygen – I can’t give links for both for obvious reasons.
Pro Tip: Store your first-aid kit in a waterproof case and place it in an easy-to-reach location on your bike. Second all our first aid kits are in molle bags like the everlit one as then we can attach them or put it in our rear jacket pocket for quick acesss. It will be silly to pack it in your bag which you may not be able to reach !
2. Be visible – Even if you are riding in a group – The simplest thing to do is wear a hi viz jacket over your jacket its thin, super light and very visible – If you have fallen down it increases the chance of you being seen. Link here 1. FCmoto-HI vis 2. Revzilla – Hi Vis Multiple brands on both links
Additionally you can put lights on the back of your helmet and also on your luggage. Look these might not look cool but when riding in rain or fog they are invaluable. These are what I use you can use other models – See the link and explore 1. Amazon – Helmet light 2. Amazon – Clip on light Once on desert ride at 11am in the morning – freak of nature – we rode into dense fog like could not see 2 feet ahead – these lights are the one’s that helped others follow me. Then there have been other occassion in rain etc that these lights have made me more visible and safer
2. SOS Satellite Communicator: Call for Help in Dead Zone
If you crash in a no-signal zone, your phone won’t help. That’s when an SOS satellite communicator steps in to save the day.
Top SOS Communicators for Solo Motorcyclists – All these work via satellite so no more depending on mobile signal. One of these is a must have ! I use the garmin
-
Garmin inReach Mini 2 – 2-way messaging, GPS tracking, and SOS button. Link > Amazon – Garmin
-
Zoleo Satellite Communicator – Syncs with your phone for effortless messaging. Link > Zoleo – Brand site
-
Spot X – Includes an SOS button and functions without a smartphone. > Spot X – Brand site
Pro Tip: Check your SOS device prior to a long ride. Ensure that your emergency contacts are familiar with how it operates. Since we are on the topic of locations whenever any member for goodgearhub is on a ride we share live locations on whatsapp with a mandatory every hour check in till the ride has halted for the night. In case the rider or riders have forgotten to check someone from our team will call them – This has saved on a couple of occasions. Also for your satellite device or your phone its again mandatory to carry two power banks – When travelling in remote areas anything is possible – We carry two pocket sized power banks of 10,000 mah each. Here is the link > Amazon -INIU
3. Backup Phone: Stay Connected When Your Main Phone Fails
Your primary phone can die, break, or be lost. A cost-effective, long-lasting backup phone means you always have a means to call for assistance.
Top Backup Phones for Solo Riders: Chosen so they work with all networks ! Double check your network compatibility before buying
✔ Nokia 2780 (4G model) – Link > Amazon – Nokia
✔ Cat S42 H+ – Tough, water-resistant, and drop-resistant. Link > Amazon – CAT S42+ This is a US variant so check for compatibility in your area
✔ UniHertz Atom – Small, rugged, and 4G-enabled. Link > Amazon UK – UNIHertz This is UK enabaled only so check for compatibility in your area
Pro Tip: Use a SIM card from another provider than your primary phone. This way, in case one network is out of order, you have a fallback. Also post paid connections usually have better connectivity than pre-paid.
4. Emergency Alarm: A Loud Distress Signal – If you are trapped or hurt where nobody can spot you, a 130dB+ personal alarm will alert others miles away.
Best Emergency Alarms for Riders:
-
✔ Kuros! 130dB Personal Alarm – Small, loud, and simple to use. Link > Kuros – Brand site

Pro Tip: Clip the alarm to your jacket or backpack for easy access in case of an emergency.
6. Hand-Crank Emergency Radio & Flashlight – An emergency radio that is self-powered assists during breakdowns, storms, and natural disasters. It also charges your phone and has a high-powered flashlight for nighttime visibility.

I ride with 3 molle kit the mosko-everlit-clozex they have been used by me mostly giving first aid to others and once for myself.
